Mental Health Matters at Osome
Q&A with Yvonne, our People Partner
September marks Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. At Osome, we recognise that mental well-being is a vital part of our culture, and we are committed to continuing to foster an environment where every employee feels valued, supported, and heard.
In this Q&A, Yvonne, our People Partner who has been with Osome for over four years, shares her insights on how we approach mental health, the values we prioritise in our hiring process, and the importance of fostering an inclusive culture.
Why is mental health significant for Osome?
At Osome, we care deeply about mental health. It shapes how we feel, how we connect with each other, and how we work together as a team. When people feel supported, they can show up as their best selves, and that’s when we do our best work.
We want to build an environment where everyone feels safe to speak up, ask for help, and be themselves. Supporting mental well-being isn’t just good for individuals, it makes our whole team stronger.
To back this up, our new starters in 2025 have consistently rated us over 4.5/5 when asked whether they feel comfortable talking to their manager about their health and well-being and getting support when needed.
What actions and initiatives has Osome taken to support employees?
We’re committed to supporting our people in different ways, including:
- Panel sessions and training: We host sessions on mental health awareness, coping strategies, and spotting the signs of distress in ourselves and others.
- Open conversations: We encourage and normalise honest conversations about mental health so people can share experiences without fear of stigma.
- Access to resources: From helplines to counselling services and mental health apps, we make sure support is easy to find.
- Regular check-ins: Our People Team and Managers check in regularly to make sure everyone feels supported and valued and adapt our styles and support to the individual.
We also recognise that mental health is a personal journey. Everyone’s needs are different, and ultimately it takes personal responsibility too. What we aim to do is create an environment where taking that step, whether it’s starting a conversation, joining a session, or reaching out for help, feels safe and supported.
How can employees get involved in promoting mental health awareness at Osome?
There are lots of ways you can play a part in supporting mental health at Osome:
- Share experiences in safe spaces, check in and offer support: Whether it’s checking in with your manager, talking with teammates, or simply being there for someone else, every bit of support makes a difference.
- Attend mental health panels and webinars: Come along, get involved, and share your thoughts.
- Share well-being resources: If you’ve come across an article, app, or tip that’s been useful for you, pass it on to others.
- Model healthy work habits: Got an idea for a mental health or well-being initiative? We’d love to hear it and support you in making it happen.
Promoting mental health here is really about looking out for yourself and each other. We believe small actions add up to a big impact.
What is your message to employees during Suicide Prevention Awareness Month?
It might sound cliché, but it’s true, you are never alone. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and your mental health is just as important as anything else in your life. At Osome, we’re here for you. We encourage you to speak up, lean on the support around you, and make use of the resources available. Most importantly, we look out for each other and work hard to build a community where everyone feels safe and supported.
