From Classroom to Career: My Internship at Osome
All my life as a student, I wondered if what we learned in university would ever truly apply to the professional world. Six months into my internship at Osome, I can confidently say the answer is yes but not always in the ways you’d expect.
As an English Linguistics student, I initially thought my "attention to detail" would just mean fixing grammar. In the workplace, I quickly learned it means far more, understanding complex project requirements, anticipating issues, and delivering reliable work. While textbooks prepared me for the basics, stepping into a fast-paced fintech start-up taught me what theories could not.
At Osome, it truly takes a village to move the company forward. Every individual shapes our success, and even as an intern, I knew my role played a vital part in that bigger picture. Looking back, my journey boils down to four key lessons that define the unique culture here.
1. Real Work, Real Impact 📈
My internship began within the People Operations team, supporting vital employee lifecycle processes like onboarding and offboarding. At first glance, these responsibilities might seem administrative, but I quickly realised how much coordination happens behind the scenes to create a world-class employee experience.
Later, I was given the opportunity to step out of the spreadsheets and contribute directly to employee engagement initiatives from Newcomer Gatherings to wellness events and Movie Nights.
At Osome, contributing value isn't determined by your job title it’s driven by your commitment to the team. I was never treated as "just an intern" fetching coffee. I was given real ownership of projects, showing me firsthand how workplace culture is intentionally built through meaningful, shared experiences.
2. Thriving in a Fast-Paced Environment 🚀
Start-ups are famously fast-paced, and adapting to that rhythm was one of my steepest and most rewarding learning curves. In the beginning, managing multiple moving parts felt overwhelming. However, through the mentorship of my team, I mastered how to:
- Prioritise tasks based on urgency and business impact.
- Pivot smoothly when requirements or priorities change.
- Communicate proactively when clarification or support is needed.
What once felt unpredictable soon became a structured, confident way of working. But what surprised me most was that despite the rapid pace, the team never lost their humanity. Even close to tight deadlines, my colleagues always found time to laugh, share stories, and support one another.
3. A Culture of Continuous Learning 🎯
What has made this experience especially meaningful is Osome’s genuine culture of inclusion. From day one, I was encouraged to ask questions, voice my ideas, and participate in high-level discussions.
Growth here is not about achieving immediate perfection; it is about being open to learning. Whether I was mastering data management tools like Excel or learning how HR operates across different global regions, every project became a classroom. The trust placed in me allowed me to transform from a "blank canvas" into a professional equipped with a highly transferable toolkit.
4. The Osome Ecosystem: Where Talent Belongs 🙏
If there is one thing I am most grateful for, it is the people. I’m incredibly lucky to have been surrounded by colleagues who were always willing to guide, mentor, and patiently support me. A popular piece of advice shared by a teammate here really stuck with me:
"No matter how challenging the work may be, when you are surrounded by good people, everything becomes a little easier."
As I prepare to take my own next steps as a university graduate, I carry forward not just technical skills, but a deep appreciation for collaborative workplaces. My journey is just one example of how Osome acts as an incredible launching pad for young professionals. For many others, this internship is only the first chapter of a long, successful career within the company.

"As an intern, I was given the autonomy to own real projects. When the opportunity came to convert to full-time, it was an easy 'yes' because I knew my career growth would be fast-tracked here."
Similarly, Rebecca began her journey as a FP&A Intern and is now a FP&A Analyst. Looking back on her experience, she said:
"The mentorship didn't stop when my internship ended. Osome invested in my potential from day one, and transitioning full-time allowed me to take our campaigns to a global scale."
